Removal and Installation
Remove
1. Remove the caliper assembly as described in Operation No. 12 223 0.
2. Thoroughly clean the caliper piston housing.

3. Force the piston out of the bore.
1. Place a 40 mm spacer inside the piston housing.

WARNING:

Care must be taken to ensure that hands are not in the way of the piston.

2. Apply low air pressure or hydraulic oil via the brake fluid inlet port to force the piston out of the bore.

4. Remove the piston.
   Be prepared for fluid spillage when the piston is ejected.

5. Remove the piston dust cover.

6. Remove the piston seal.
Install

CAUTION:

If the piston or bore is rusted or scored they must be replaced.

7. Wash the piston and the caliper piston bore with commercial alcohol, methylated spirit or new approved brake fluid. Do not use mineral based fluids such as petrol or paraffin.
8. Fit a new piston bore seal and lubricate the bore with approved brake fluid.

9. Refit the piston seal dust cover.
1. Locate the inner diameter of the cover into the groove in the piston.
2. Smear protective grease (supplied with Service kit) behind piston groove.

CAUTION:

Take care not to damage the seal and dust cover and ensure that the dust cover is properly seated.

10. Refit the piston.
   Push the piston into the bore simultaneously pressing the the dust cover into the piston housing.

11. Push the piston fully into the piston bore.
12. Refit the caliper assembly as described in Operation No. 12 223 0.
