Removal and Installation
Remove

WARNING:

Wait at least 15 minutes after disconnecting the battery before disconnecting the electronic air bag control module multiplug, for all other supplementary restraint system multiplugs wait two minutes. If these times are not observed there may be the possibility of accidentally deploying the air bag(s) and the pyrotechnic seat belt pretensioners.

WARNING:

Do not use a radio keycode saver when working on the supplementary restraint system (SRS). Make sure that the radio keycode and station presents are noted before disconnecting the battery.

CAUTION:

Disconnect the battery negative lead.

1. Remove the air bag module (refer to Operation Number 40 700 0).
2. Remove the steering wheel (refer to Operation Number 13 524 0).

3. Remove the three screws retaining the clockspring.

4. Remove the clockspring.
Install

WARNING:

The following clockspring centralising procedure must be carried out after refitting the clockspring to the steering wheel.

WARNING:

If there is any doubt about the centralisation of the clockspring the clockspring centralisation procedure must be repeated.

5. Centralise the clockspring.
1. Depress the locking plunger.
2. Rotate the outer rotor fully anti‐clockwise until tight.

NOTE:

Make sure the plunger locks the clockspring in position.

3. Rotate the outer rotor clockwise approximately four turns.

WARNING:

When refitting the steering wheel make sure that the clockspring engages correctly on the steering column (refer to Operation Number 13 524 0).

6. Refit the remaining components in reverse order.
