Brake Pedal Assy: Adjustments
Brake Pedal Linkage
On the dual-brake master cylinder with power brake booster system, the brake system is designed to permit a full stroke of the brake master
cylinder when the brake pedal is fully depressed. A brake pedal clearance adjustment is not required.
If pedal travel seems restricted, refer to Brakes, Testing and Inspection.
To release the brakes, fluid must flow back to the brake master cylinder through a return port when pedal pressure is released. To be sure the
caliper piston moves back far enough to expose the return port, free-travel is built into the pedal linkage. This prevents the caliper piston from
becoming trapped in a partially-released position. If a problem is suspected, the push rod and brake pedal should be checked to make sure they are
not binding. Pedal free-travel is not always perceptible in dash-mounted booster systems, because the operating clearance for the caliper piston is
adjusted at the booster push rod, rather than the pedal linkage. Refer to the brake master cylinder installation procedure for instructions on
dash-mounted booster push rod adjustment.
