Wheel Cylinder: Service and Repair
Disassembly And Assembly
1. Remove the rear wheel cylinder from the vehicle.
2. Disengage the dust boots from the grooves in the rear wheel cylinder housing. Remove each dust boot and piston from the rear wheel cylinder
housing as an assembly.
3. Remove the rubber cups, expander spring, and expander assembly from the rear wheel cylinder bore.
4. Remove the wheel cylinder bleeder screw from the rear wheel cylinder housing.
5. Discard all rubber parts.
6. Wash all parts in clean, denatured alcohol.
7. Inspect the pistons for scratches, scoring, or other visible damage. Replace the pistons if necessary.
8. Inspect the rear wheel cylinder bore for scratches, scoring, or other visible damage. If necessary, hone the rear wheel cylinder bore. Do not hone
more than 0.08 mm (0.003 inch) beyond the rear wheel cylinder bore original diameter.
9. Wash the rear wheel cylinder housing with clean, denatured alcohol after honing.
10. Inspect the bleeder hole to ensure that it is free of obstructions.
NOTE: Apply a light coating of Heavy-Duty Brake Fluid C6AZ-19542-AA or -BA or DOT 3 equivalent meeting Ford specification
ESA-M6C25-A to all internal parts.
11. To assemble, reverse the disassembly procedure.
