Brake Caliper: Testing and Inspection
1. Visually check disc brake caliper. If housing is leaking, it should be replaced. If a seal is leaking, disc brake caliper must be disassembled and new
seals and dust boot installed.
2. If a caliper piston is seized in the bore, a new housing is required. Care must be taken while removing metal caliper piston.
3. Do not use compressed air to blow away dirt and debris. Compressed air could dislodge and force dirt past the caliper dust boot.
4. Clean all metal parts with isopropyl alcohol. Then, clean out and dry grooves and passageways with compressed air. Make sure disc brake caliper
bore and component parts are thoroughly clean.
5. Inspect the caliper bore and piston for rust or pitting. Do not hone a caliper bore. The rear disc brake caliper or caliper piston must be replaced if
the bore is badly worn, scored or damaged.
