Wheel Cylinder: Testing and Inspection
INSPECTION
1. Do not disassemble rear wheel cylinders unless they are leaking. Pull back each dust boot and look for leakage. A slight amount of brake fluid is
almost always present and acts as a lubricant for the pistons.
2. Excessive brake fluid indicates leakage past the piston seals and a need for rear wheel cylinder overhaul. If excessive leakage is noted,
disassemble, inspect and overhaul rear wheel cylinder.
3. Inspect rear wheel cylinder bore for scratches and pitting. If rear wheel cylinder is pitted or has deep scratches, Replace the rear wheel cylinder.
