Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

1. Remove cowl top vent panel
2. Remove air cleaner assembly and outlet tube.
3. Disconnect spark plug wires.
4. Remove spark plugs.
5. Disconnect EGR tube, then raise and support vehicle.
6. Remove transmission dipstick tube and the thermactor downstream air tube.
7. Remove exhaust pipe to manifold attaching nuts, then lower vehicle.
8. Remove exhaust manifold attaching bolts, then the manifold.
9. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

a. Lightly lubricate bolts and nuts with oil.
b. Tighten manifold attaching bolts to 15-22 ft lb.
c. Tighten exhaust pipe attaching nuts to 16-24 ft lb.
