LIGHT TRUCK:
1995-96 WINDSTAR
ISSUE:
The brake malfunction indicator lamp may illuminate immediately after start-up and an ABS Code 1226 may be stored in memory on some vehicles.
This may be caused by the ignition switch not fully returning to the Run position after start-up due to friction within the steering column.
ACTION:
Remove the redundant brake prove-out circuit from the connector. This will reduce the possibility of the brakelamp illuminating improperly should the
ignition switch not fully return to Run after start-up. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.
Make sure the brake fluid level is at the "full" mark in the master cylinder reservoir. Inspect the brake system for leaks. Repair as required. If there
are no brake fluid leaks, proceed to Step 2.
2.
Locate the 3-pin connector (C115) at the brake master cylinder. Refer to the 1995 or 1996 Windstar Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting
Manual (EVTM), Page 151-4, grid location A6. Disconnect the connector (C115).
3.
Remove the center terminal (Circuit 22, light blue/black wire) circuit. Bend this wire straight back along its own harness about 76 mm (3") from
the connector and tape it to the harness using commercial grade electrical tape.
4.
Reconnect the connector.
NOTE:
THIS IS A REDUNDANT CIRCUIT AND WILL NOT AFFECT ANY BRAKE OR ELECTRICAL FUNCTIONS OTHER THAN PREVENTING
IMPROPER ILLUMINATION OF THE BRAKE INDICATOR LAMPS.
