4. Cut tie straps remove and discard the steering shaft heat shield from steering gear
5. Lower vehicle.
6. Remove hose clamp at power steering pump and disconnect power steering return hose.
7. Remove power steering return hose from vehicle.
Installation
1. Position power steering return hose in vehicle.
2. Connect power steering return hose to power steering pump and tighten clamp to 1.4-2 Nm (13-17 lb-in).
3. Raise vehicle.
4. Position a new steering shaft heat shield at steering gear and install tie straps.
5. Connect power steering return hose to power steering oil cooler and tighten clamp to 1.4-2 Nm (13-17 lb-in).
6. Lowervehicle.
NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module
relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the strategy.
7. Connect battery ground cable.
8. Fill system.
