1995 WINDSTAR
OVERVIEW
The service procedure involves the replacement of a fuel tank strap with a redesigned strap and the installation of a brace at the strap mounting location.
The brace and redesigned strap will effectively reduce fuel tank stress and eliminate potential fuel tank cracking.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.
Drain the fuel tank.
2.
Turn off the air suspension, if equipped.
3.
Raise and support the vehicle.
NOTE:
Be careful to position the hoist left rear lift point to allow access to the fuel tank strap bolt.
4.
Remove the fuel tank strap.
a.
On vehicles with a 20 gallon fuel tank (tank will have two [2] straps):

Remove the front fuel tank strap. The front of the fuel tank will lower a couple of inches. Do not remove the rear fuel tank strap.

Discard the front fuel tank strap.
b.
On vehicles with a 25 gallon fuel tank (tank will have three [3] straps):

Support the fuel tank by positioning an adjustable jack between the front and the middle fuel tank straps.

Remove the front and the middle fuel tank straps. Do not remove the rear fuel tank strap.
^
Slowly lower the front of the fuel tank.
^
Discard the middle fuel tank strap.
5.
Remove the fuel tank brace from the parts kit. Check the spacer in the brace to make sure it is firmly seated inside the strap bolt hole.
