Mass Air Flow Sensor: Service and Repair
Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF)
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control
Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
2. Loosen air cleaner outlet tube clamp at mass air flow sensor. Remove air cleaner outlet tube from mass air flow sensor.
3. Disconnect electrical connector to mass air flow sensor.
4. Remove four retaining nuts.
5. Remove mass air flow sensor and discard old mass air flow sensor mounting gasket.
INSTALLATION
1. Clean sealing surfaces of engine air cleaner and mass air flow sensor of old gasket material.
