Fig. 3 Camshaft & Hydraulic Valve Lash Adjusters
Fig. 4 Applying Engine Oil To Camshaft Oil Holes
Hydraulic valve lash adjusters should not be disassembled.
1.
Remove camshaft as described under CAMSHAFT.
2.
Remove hydraulic valve lash adjusters from cylinder head, Fig. 3.
3.
Check hydraulic valve lash adjusters for wear and damage and replace as necessary.
4.
Using a micrometer, measure outside diameter of hydraulic valve lash adjuster. Outside diameter should be 1.2188 to 1.2194 inches.
5.
Measure hydraulic valve lash adjuster bore in cylinder head. Bore diameter should be 1.2205 to 1.2214 inches.
6.
To determine hydraulic valve lash adjuster to cylinder head bore clearance, subtract adjuster outside diameter from cylinder head adjuster bore
diameter. Adjuster to bore clearance should be .0010 to .0025 inch. If clearance is greater than .0059 inch, replace adjuster or cylinder head as
necessary.
7.
Place valve lash adjuster in clean engine oil prior to installation. Also pour engine oil through camshaft journal oil holes, until oil is emitted from
hydraulic valve lash adjuster oil holes, Fig. 4.
8.
Apply engine oil to valve lash adjuster, then position adjuster in cylinder head bore and install camshaft.
