Fuel Return Line: Service and Repair
CAUTION: To reduce the risk of fire and personal injury, it is necessary to relieve the fuel system pressure before servicing fuel system components.
REMOVAL:
1.
Relieve fuel system pressure. Refer to MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELIEF.
2.
Remove fuel filler cap from fuel filler neck to release fuel vapor pressure in fuel tank. Reinstall cap.
3.
Remove negative battery cable.
4.
Hoist vehicle.
5.
Remove Brake pipe from four-way joint and at brake proportioning valve.
6.
Disconnect fuel filter outlet hose clamp and hose from the fuel feed line.
7.
Remove fuel return hose clamp and hose from the fuel return line.
8.
Remove fuel vapor hose clamp and hose from the fuel vapor line.
9.
Remove fuel feed, return, and vapor hose clamps and hoses from respective lines at the front of the vehicle.
Removing Fuel Line Clamp
10.
Remove three line guards from the vehicle chassis. Place a position mark on the vehicle chassis and each line so that clamps can be installed in the
same position.
11.
Remove line clamps and lines as an assembly from the vehicle. Remove clamps from lines.
INSTALLATION:
1.
Install line clamps to marked postions on lines.
NOTE: If line clamp is deformed or its claw is bent or broken, replace clamp with a new one.
2.
Install line clamps and lines as an assembly to the vehicle.
3.
Install three line guards to the vehicle chassis.
4.
Connect fuel feed, return and vapor hoses and hose clamps to respective lines at the front of vehicle.
5.
Connect fuel vapor hose and hose clamp to the fuel return line.
6.
Connect fuel return hose and hose clamp to the fuel return line.
7.
Connect fuel filter outlet hose and hose clamp to the fuel feed line.
8.
Install Brake pipe to four-way joint and to brake proportioning valve.
9.
Connect negative battery cable. Check fuel lines for leakage. Bleed brake system as necessary.
