Disabling the SIR System
The diagnostic energy reserve module (DERM) can maintain voltage to cause a system deployment for up to ten minutes after the ignition
switch is turned off and the battery is disconnected. Servicing the SIR system during this period may result in accidental deployment and
personal injury.
1.
On 1992 models, place steering wheel so that wheels are pointing straight ahead, then turn ignition switch to LOCK position.
2.
On 1991 models, turn ignition switch to Off position.
3.
On all models, remove SIR IG fuse from SIR fuse block.
4.
Remove rear plastic access cover from inflator module housing.
5.
Remove Connector Position Assurance (CPA), then disconnect yellow two-way SIR electrical connector inside inflator module housing.
