Shift Indicator: Description and Operation
The purpose of the Shift Light is to provide a display which indicates the optimum fuel economy point for upshifting the manual transaxle based on
engine speed and load. The display lamp is a lamp on the instrument panel. Activation of the ECM driver turns the lamp "ON." The Shift Light is
intended for economical driving by using proper gear position. The Shift Light will stay "ON" for up to 5 seconds, so as to urge the driver to shift-up.
When the following conditions are all met, it turns "ON" the Shift Light in the Instrument Panel.

Vehicle speed is higher than 3 mph (5 km/h).

Both Idle Switch and WOT Switch are "OFF."

Engine speed is greater than 1200 rpm.
NOTE: The Shift Light will dim slightly when the headlights and/or parking lights are turned "ON." This is to give better visibility.
