Spark Plug Installation

SPARK PLUG REPLACEMENT

CAUTION:  This engine is equipped with an aluminum cylinder head. Allow the engine to cool down before removing spark plugs. Removing the
spark plugs from an engine at operating temperature may damage the spark plug threads in the aluminum cylinder head.

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

1. Negative (-) battery cable.
2. Secondary (spark plug) wire(s) from spark plug(s).
3. Spark plug(s) from cylinder head.

INSPECT

Spark plug(s) for electrode wear, carbon deposits and insulator damage. Refer to Testing and Inspection / Procedures under Spark Plugs. See:
Testing and Inspection

INSTALL OR CONNECT

IMPORTANT:

Use NGK Type BPR6ES-11, Nippondenso W2OEPR-U11 or AC Type R42XLS spark plugs.

Set spark plug gap to 1.0 to 1.1 mm (0.039 to 0.043 in.).

1. Spark plug(s) to cylinder head. Tighten spark plug to 28 Nm (21 lb ft).
2. Secondary (spark plug) wire(s) to spark plug(s).
3. Negative (-) battery cable. Tighten negative (-) battery cable-to-negative (-) battery terminal retainer to 15 Nm (11 lb ft).
