Wheel Bearing: Service and Repair
REAR HUB AND/OR BEARINGS

1. Raise and support rear of vehicle, then remove wheel and tire assembly.
2. Remove wheel bearing dust cap from brake drum.
3. Using a chisel, unstake wheel bearing nut, then remove wheel bearing nut and washer.
4. Loosen parking brake cable adjusting nuts, then remove plug from backing plate and back off drum brake adjustment.
5. Using a suitable puller, remove brake drum.
6. Using a brass drift, remove wheel bearings from brake drum.
7. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Fill Hub cavity (A), Fig. 1 , with lithium wheel bearing grease.
b. Install wheel bearings and spacer using Bearing and Hub Installer tool Nos. J-7079-2 and J-34842, or equivalents. Wheel bearing should be
installed with sealed side facing outward, Fig. 1
c. Install brake drum on spindle. Tighten wheel bearing nut to specifications, then stake nut in position.
d. After completing installation, adjust drum brake and parking brake.
e. Bleed and check brake system for proper operation prior to moving vehicle.
