Cruise Control Module: Description and Operation
DESCRIPTION
The cruise control module is mounted on the center console under the radio. The main function of the CCM is to monitor and act upon input signals
from the cruise control switch and VSS. There are four different kinds of input signals received by the CCM: On/Off, speed control, throttle position
and cancel. The On/Off signal is provided by the cruise control switch and activates and deactivates the cruise control system.
OPERATION
The speed control input signal to the CCM is provided by the cruise control switch and VSS. Speed control input signals from the cruise control
switch are the Res/Acc (resume/accelerate) signal and the Set/Coast signal; these signals are also used to initiate the tap-up and tap-down functions.
The CCM uses these signals in addition to the signal from the VSS to determine and maintain or alter vehicle speed in accordance with the driver's
commands. The throttle position signals to the CCM are provided by the actuator and the idle switch inside the Throttle Position (TP) Sensor. These
signals allow the CCM to constantly monitor throttle position during cruise control operation. The cancel signals are provided by the cruise control
switch Cancel signal, the parking brake switch, stop lamp switch, brake fluid level switch, Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch (automatic transaxles)
or Clutch Pedal Position (CPP) interrupt switch (manual transaxles).
