Spark Plug: Service and Repair

Spark Plug Removal and Installation

REMOVAL

NOTE:  For diagnosis of the spark plugs, refer to Spark Plug / Testing and Inspection.

1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
2. Remove the spark plug wires from the spark plugs by gripping boot firmly. Turn the boot one half turn when removing the wire.
3. Remove the spark plugs from the engine using a 13/16 in. (20.6 mm) spark plug socket.

INSTALLATION

NOTE:

Always use a spark plug type that is specified for this vehicle, refer to Spark Plug / Application and ID.

Always check and adjust the spark plug gap before installing, refer to Spark Plug / Specifications.

1. Install spark plugs into engine using a 13/16 inch spark plug socket. Tighten to 28 Nm (21 ft lb).
2. Install spark plug wires onto spark plugs by pressing the boots firmly onto the spark plugs.
3. Connect the negative (-) battery cable.
