Rear Knuckle: Service and Repair

Raise and support vehicle.
2.
Support suspension using a suitable jack. Place jack under suspension supports, not the suspension arms.
3.
Lower vehicle slightly so weight rests on jack.
4.
Remove tire and wheel assembly.
5.
On except GSi models, remove brake drum assembly.
6.
On GSi models, remove rear disc brake assembly.
7.
On all models, remove rear axle hub as outlined under TRANSMISSIONS CLUTCHES DIFFERENTIALS AXLES AND DRIVE
SHAFTS/AXLES, DRIVE SHAFTS/COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES/REAR AXLE/AXLE HUB

On except GSi models, disconnect brake line from brake hose and backing plate.
9.
On GSi models, disconnect brake hose from caliper assembly.
10.
On all models, remove strut rod from knuckle as outlined under STRUT ROD.
11.
Remove front and rear suspension arms from knuckle as outlined under SUSPENSION HUB.
12.
Disconnect strut assembly as outlined under STRUT/COIL SPRING ASSEMBLY.
13.
Remove knuckle.
14.
Reverse procedure to install, torquing attaching bolts to specifications.
