Timing Belt: Service and Repair
Install or Connect
Tool Required: J 28467-A Universal Support Fixture.
Install or Connect
1. Camshaft timing gear. Refer to the Camshaft.
Important

Keep water and foreign materials away from the camshaft, camshaft pulley, crankshaft pulley, and idler pulley.
2. Crankshaft timing gear. Refer to the Camshaft.

3. Idler pulley, mount bolt, and tension spring. Pry the idler pulley to the left as far as it will go and temporarily tighten it.
4. Timing belt.

If reusing a timing belt, align the points marked during removal and install the belt with the arrow pointing in the direction of engine rotation.

Loosen the timing belt idler pulley mount bolt.

Temporarily install the crankshaft pulley bolt and turn the crankshaft 2 revolutions from TDC to TDC.

Always turn the crankshaft clockwise. Verify that all of the components are properly aligned, check the valve timing, and install the timing belt
idler pulley bolt.
Tighten: Timing belt idler pulley bolt to 37 Nm (27 lb.ft.). Remove the temporarily installed crankshaft pulley bolt.
