Ball Joint: Service and Repair

1.

Raise and support vehicle.

2.

Support suspension using a suitable jack. Place jack under suspension supports, not the control arm.

3.

Lower vehicle slightly so weight rests on jack.

4.

Loosen wheel lug nuts.

5.

Remove tire and wheel assembly.

6.

Install inner drive joint seal protector tool No. J-34754, or equivalent. Care must be taken not to allow tri-pot joints to over extend. Over
extended tri-pot joints could result in separation of internal components and possible join failure.

7.

Using ball joint removal tool No. J-35413 or equivalent, separate ball joint from knuckle assembly.

8.

Remove two nuts and bolts attaching ball joint and control arm.

9.

Remove ball joint.

10.

Reverse procedure to install. Torque knuckle to ball joint nut to specifications. During installation, always replace a self-locking nut with a new
one.
