Spark Plug Wire: Service and Repair

Spark Plug Wiring

REMOVAL:

1.

Disconnect the negative (-) cable.

2.

Remove the spark plug wires from the spark plugs by gripping boot firmly. Turn the boot one half turn when removing the wire.

3.

Remove the distributor clamp by undoing the 2 clamps.

NOTE:  DO NOT attempt to remove the spark plug wire by pulling on it. Pull and twist the wire boot only.

4.

Remove the wires from the valve cover mounted wire guide.

5.

Remove the coil wire from the coil and the center of distributor terminal.

NOTE:  If possible, leave the spark plug wire guides attached to the wires. This will aid in proper re-installation of the wires.

INSTALLATION:

1.

Install the distributor cap and attach with clamps.

2.

Install the coil wire to the coil.

3.

Install the spark plug wires to the valve cover mounted guide.

4.

Install the spark plug wires to the spark plugs by pressing the boots firmly onto the plugs.

5.

Connect the negative (-) battery cable.
