Removal
The power steering gear is non-serviceable and therefore must be replaced as a unit. To remove the power steering gear proceed as follows:
1.
Remove steering unit from vehicle and place in suitable vise, Fig. 1.
2.
Remove power steering lines.
3.
Scribe alignment mark on tie rod end and tie rod, then remove tie rod ends.
4.
Remove rack boots, then bend back locking washer using appropriate punch or chisel and remove.
5.
Using tie rod housing wrench, tool No. J 35414 and steering rack end wrench, tool No. J 35418, remove tie rod.
6.
Remove dust cover, snap ring then, oil seal.
Disassembly
1.
Remove steering unit, Fig. 15. from vehicle and place in suitable vise.
2.
Remove right and left turn pressure pipes between valve housing and cylinder using injection line wrench tool No. J-29698-A or equivalent.
3.
Place match marks on tie rod ends and tie rods, then remove tie rod ends.
