Wheel Bearing: Adjustments

REAR WHEEL BEARINGS ADJUSTMENT

1.

Raise and support rear of vehicle.

2.

Remove wheel and tire assembly.

3.

Remove bearing dust cap, then remove cotter pin and loosen spindle nut.

4.

While rotating hub and drum assembly, torque spindle nut to 22 ft. lbs.

5.

Loosen spindle nut, then tighten finger tight.

6.

Install spindle nut retainer and cotter pin. If cotter pin holes are not aligned, tighten nut slightly to align.

7.

Apply suitable wheel bearing grease to inner area of bearing dust cap, then install cap.

8.

Install wheel and tire assembly and lower vehicle and torque lug nuts to specification listed under SPECIFICATIONS/MECHANICAL
SPECIFICATIONS/TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS
