Fuel Tank: Service and Repair
Fuel Tank Purging

PROCEDURE:

1. Remove fuel tank from the vehicle.
2. Remove the fuel gauge sending and pump unit.
3. Remove all remaining fuel in fuel tank.

INSPECT:

Inspect fuel tank for any remaining fuel.

INSTALL: 

1. Tap water into the tank,

a. Move the tank to the flushing area (wash rack).
b. Agitate the water vigorously, and then, drain it.

2. Introduce a gasoline emulsifying agent, such as Product-Sol No. 913, or equivalent.
3. Add water to the fuel tank.

a. Refer to the emulsifying agent specifications for the mix ratio.
b. Agitate the mixture for ten minutes.
c. Drain the tank completely.
d. Fill the tank with water, until it over flows.
e. Completely flush out any remaining mixture.
f.

Drain the fuel tank.

g. Use an explosion meter (if available) to check the tank for a negative reading.
h. Perform the required service work.

4. Repair the fuel tank.
5. Install the fuel gauge sending and pump unit.
6. Install the fuel tank back into vehicle.
