Heater Core: Service and Repair

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable.

2.

Drain cooling system, then disconnect heater hoses at engine compartment.

3.

Remove instrument panel assembly, referring to BODY ELECTRICAL SAFETY AND ENTERTAINMENT/INSTRUMENT PANELS AND
CLUSTERS/COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES/DASH PANEL SERVICE for procedure.

4.

Remove evaporator assembly as described in EVAPORATOR CORE.

5.

Remove duct between blower assembly and heater unit, Fig. 10, then the center ventilation duct.

6.

Remove four heater unit retaining nuts, then the heater unit.

7.

Remove three duct mounting screws, then the five mode control to heater core case retaining screws.

8.

Remove mode control case, but do not remove the link assembly at this time.

9.

Remove five screws so that two halves of the heater core case may be separated, Fig. 10.

10.

Remove heater core.

11.

Reverse procedure to install.
