Fig. 7 Neutral Safety Switch Multimeter To C1 Connection.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Place shift selector lever in Neutral position.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Remove electrical connections on switch, Fig. 5.
5. Disconnect four terminal electrical connectors under intake manifold, Fig. 6.
6. Remove gasket and switch from transmission.
7. Proceed as follows to install:
a. Connect neutral safety switch four terminal electrical C2 connectors under intake manifold, leave C1 connectors disconnected.
b. Place neutral safety switch on manual shift shaft, then secure with one bolt. Do not completely tighten.
c. Install manual shift lever to manual shift shaft, then secure with one washer and nut. Do not fully tighten.
d. Using digital multimeter tool No. J39200, or equivalent, adjust neutral safety switch by attaching multimeter probes to either side of the C1
terminals, Fig. 7.
e. Pivot neutral safety switch clockwise as far as possible.
f.
Slowly pivot neutral safety switch counterclockwise until a click is heard and continuity is read on multimeter.
g. Tighten neutral safety switch to 15 ft. lbs., then manual select lever nut to 14 ft. lbs.
h. Connect C1 neutral safety switch electrical connectors.

Lower vehicle and connect battery ground cable.
