Timing Belt: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
This engine is equipped with an interference fit cylinder head. Do not rotate camshaft or crankshaft independently after timing belt removal.
Damage will occur to valve and piston components.
1. Remove battery ground cable.
2. Remove A/C, power steering, and generator drive belts.
3. Remove coolant pump pulley from pump.
4. Raise and support vehicle.
5. Remove skid plate and lower radiator shroud, then lower vehicle.
6. Lower vehicle, then on models equipped with A/C remove attaching bolts and reposition A/C suction line to allow access for radiator shroud
removal.
7. Disconnect upper radiator hose, then remove radiator shroud.

8. Remove crankshaft pulley bolts, Fig. 39, then the crankshaft pulley from the crankshaft. Removal of center pulley bolt is not required.
9. Remove oil pressure sending unit wire conduit from timing belt cover.
