Power Steering Bleeding: Service and Repair

    Use power steering fluid GM No. 1050017, or equivalent. Failure to use proper fluid could cause hose and seal damage. 

1.

Start engine, then turn wheels to left stop. Stop engine.

2.

Add power steering fluid to Cold mark on fluid level indicator.

3.

Start engine, run at fast idle for 15 seconds. Stop engine, recheck fluid level. If necessary, add fluid to bring level to Cold mark again.

4.

Start engine and bleed system by turning wheels from side to side three or four times. Stop engine and check fluid level. Fluid with air has a light
tan appearance. this air must be eliminated from the system fluid before normal steering action can be obtained.

5.

Repeat procedure until fluid is purged of air.
