Fan Clutch: Service and Repair

    To prevent silicone fluid from draining into fan drive bearing, do not store or place drive unit on bench with rear of shaft pointing
downward. The coil spring type fan clutch cannot be disassembled, serviced or repaired. If it does not function properly, it must be replaced with a new
unit. To replace the fan clutch, use the following procedure:

1.

Remove the radiator fan shroud.

2.

Unfasten the unit from the water pump, then remove the assembly from vehicle.

3.

Separate fan from fan clutch.

4.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a.

Ensure mating surfaces of water pump hub and fan clutch hub are smooth and free of any burrs.

b.

Align yellow reference marks on water pump hub and fan clutch hub.

c.

Torque nuts to 18 ft. lbs.
