Fuel Pressure: Testing and Inspection
Procedure:
A fuel system pressure test is part of several of the diagnostic charts and symptom checks. To perform this test, follow this procedure:
1. Turn engine "OFF" and relieve fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure.
2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
3. Install fuel pressure gauge (J 29658 or equivalent) on the outlet side of the fuel filter.
4. Tighten gauge in line to insure no leaks occur during testing.
5. Connect the negative battery terminal.
6. "START" engine and observe fuel pressure reading. It should be 179-220 kPa (26-32 psi).
7. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
8. Relieve fuel pressure and remove fuel pressure gauge.
9. Install a new O-ring on fuel feed line.
10. Reinstall fuel line.
11. Connect the negative battery terminal.
12. "START" engine and check for fuel leaks.
