ALL MODELS WITH TILT STEERING COLUMNS
Some vehicles equipped with tilt steering columns experience a squeaking noise when turning the steering wheel in a tilted position. This can be caused
by insufficient grease in the tilting mechanism.
Figure 1 - TILT STEERING ASSEMBLY
TO CHECK FOR THIS CONDITION:
1.
Start engine.
2.
Position steering wheel in the full up position, Figure No. 1
3.
Touching only the rim (so the center pad does not cause a squeak) turn the steering wheel back and forth to the extreme left and right
position.
4.
Repeat this procedure at straight on position and full down position.
If a squeaking noise is detected, follow the repair procedure listed in this bulletin.
