Camshaft Gear/Sprocket: Service and Repair
REMOVAL

Tools Required

J 5825-A Crankshaft Gear Puller, or equivalent
CAUTION: Do not rotate the crankshaft after the timing chain is removed. The pistons and the valves may be damaged.
1. Measure the camshaft timing chain free play.

If the chain can be moved back and forth in excess of 16 mm (0.625 inch), replace the camshaft timing chain and the sprockets during
reassembly.
2. Remove the camshaft sprocket bolts.
3. Remove the camshaft sprocket.
4. Remove the camshaft timing chain.
5. Remove the crankshaft sprocket using the J 5825-A.
6. Remove the key, if necessary.

J 5590 Crankshaft Sprocket Installer, or equivalent
1. Install the key into the crankshaft keyway.
