Accumulator HVAC: Service and Repair

ACCUMULATOR REPLACEMENT

TOOLS REQUIRED

-

J 38042 Dual O-Ring Tube Separator

-

J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
2. Disconnect the electrical connectors, as necessary.
3. Remove the pressure cycling switch.
4. Disconnect the hose assembly from the accumulator using the J 38042. Refer to Compressor Hose Assembly Replacement.
5. Disconnect the accumulator from the evaporator using the J 38042.

IMPORTANT:  Cap or plug all of the open connections.

6. Remove the O-ring seals from the accumulator.
7. Remove the accumulator bracket screw.
8. Remove the accumulator.
9. Remove the upper and the lower accumulator insulators.
