Fuel Gauge: Description and Operation
Dual Tank

The fuel balance module monitors the signal circuit of the fuel level sender in order to determine the fuel level. When the fuel tank is full the sender
resistance is high and when the fuel tank is empty the sender resistance is low. Based on the sensor resistance and the fuel balance module 5 volt
reference, the fuel balance module calculates the total remaining fuel %) in tank. The fuel balance module averages the resistance of the primary and the
secondary (auxiliary) fuel level sensors to produce an equivalent resistance that reflects the average level of both tanks. The fuel balance module
equalizes the fuel levels in both tanks while supplying the engine from the primary tank. The IPC receives total fuel remaining information from the fuel
balance module via the fuel level sensor signal circuit.
