Differential Side Bearings Replacement 

Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J8107-2 Side Bearing Puller Plug

-

J29721 Differential Side Bearing Remover

-

J29721-70 Side Bearing Adapters

1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting. 
2. Remove the axle shafts. 
3. Remove rear axle housing cover. 
4. Remove the differential case assembly.  

Important:  Mark the side bearings, the outboard shims, and the bearing cups appropriately and place with the corresponding bearing cap. 

5. Remove the differential side bearings using the J8107-2, the J29721 and the J29721-70.

Important:  Mark the inboard and the outboard shims left or right. 

6. Remove the inboard shims.

Installation Procedure 

1. Determine the total shim pack size for the differential assembly.  
2. Install the axle shafts. 
3. Install the rear axle housing cover.  
4. Fill the axle with lubricant. Use the proper fluid.  
5. Lower the vehicle.
