Removal and Installation

PROPELLER SHAFT PARKING BRAKE (HD MODELS ONLY)

Parking Brake Drum Replacement

Remove or Disconnect

1. Release the parking brake.
2. Raise the vehicle and support with stands.
3. Propeller shaft.
4. Nut and washer if equipped with manual transmission.
5. Bolt and washer if equipped with automatic transmission.
6. Drum and yoke assembly.
7. Bolts and washers.
8. Drum from yoke.

Install or Connect

CAUTION:  Always use the correct fastener in the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that
application. General Motors will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. General Motors will also call out the fasteners
that require thread lockers or thread sealant. Unless otherwise specified, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion
inhibitors) on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and joint clamping force,
and may damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can
help you avoid damage to parts and systems.

Drum And Yoke

1. Drum to yoke.
2. Bolts and washers.

Tighten bolts to 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.).

3. Drum and yoke assembly.
4. Washer and nut if equipped with manual transmission.
5. Washer and bolt if equipped with automatic transmission.

Tighten:
-

Nut to 475 Nm (350 ft. lbs.).

-

Bolt to 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.).

6. Propeller shaft.
7. Lower the vehicle.
