Timing Cover: Service and Repair

Engine Front Cover Replacement

Tools Required

J 41476 Front and Rear Cover Alignment Tool (at crankshaft seal area)

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the air conditioning (A/C) compressor and bracket. Refer to Compressor Replacement (LH6, LS2) Compressor Replacement (LL8).
2. Remove the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Replacement (LH6 and LS2).
3. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement.
4. Remove the oil pan-to-front cover bolts.
5. Remove the front cover bolts.
6. Remove the front cover and gasket.
7. Discard the front cover gasket.
8. Clean and inspect the engine front cover. Refer to Engine Front Cover Cleaning and Inspection.
