CHROME FINISH ON POWER DOOR LOCK SWITCH PEELING/CRACKING (INSTALL NEW SWITCH AND CONNECTOR)
MODELS:
1991-93 G VANS
CONDITION
Some owners of 1991-1993 G-vans may comment that the chrome finish on the power door lock switch is peeling and/or cracking.
CAUSE
The chrome delamination was due to a processing which did not allow for the chrome plating to properly bond to the switch face plate.
CORRECTION
This condition may be corrected by installing a new door lock switch P/N 16628533, and a terminal connector package 12117263, which is now
available from GMSPO.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
REMOVAL OF POWER DOOR LOCK SWITCH
1.
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2.
Use a screwdriver to depress the retaining tabs on the sides of the power door lock switch.
3.
Remove switch from the door panel.
4.
Twist off lock cap (for models w/interior trim panels).
5.
Remove the three wire connector from the terminal side of the power door lock switch and discard the switch.
6.
Use wire cutters to cut the three wire harness and discard the connector.
INSTALLATION OF THE NEW CONNECTOR AND POWER DOOR LOCK SWITCH
1.
Install the three wire terminal connector kit (P/N 12117263).
Note:
Steps a thru d should be followed for procedures 2 thru 4.
a.
Remove the insulation from the wires.
b.
Install splice clips.
c.
Crimp and solder the splice clips.
d.
Use electrical tape or shrink tube to wrap the splices.
Note:
