THIS BULLETIN SUPPLEMENTS BULLETIN 92-C-52 ISSUED JULY 1996. THIS SUPPLEMENT CONTAINS CHANGES IN THE "VEHICLES
INVOLVED", "CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION", "SERVICE PROCEDURE", AND "CLAIM INFORMATION" SECTIONS. CHANGES OR
ADDITIONS ARE SHOWN IN BOLD AND ITALIC TYPE. ADDITIONALLY, A NEW OWNER'S LETTER WILL BE SENT TO CUSTOMERS
THAT ARE NOT REGISTERED IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA. A COPY OF THE NEW LETTER IS ATTACHED. THIS SUPPLEMENT
SHOULD BE FILED WITH BULLETIN 92-C-52.
Certain 1992 C, K Trucks, and M, L, G Vans equipped with 4.3L engines (RPO LB4 - VIN Code Z or RPO L35 - VIN Code W) and California
emissions equipment (RPO NB2) and GVW less than 8500 lb. may be emitting non methane hydrocarbons (NMHC) and oxides of nitrogen (NOx) in
excess of California emission standards. Excess emissions may cause a vehicle to fail state mandated emission tests.
To correct this condition, dealers are to replace the catalytic converter catalyst beads.
Vehicles Involved
This recall campaign applies only to vehicles registered in California. Vehicles registered outside California may have this campaign closed by returning
a reply card (see owner notification section), or the Chevrolet/GMC dealer in their state may close (see "Claim Information" section). If a vehicle is
registered outside of California, but will be registered in California in the future, the campaign should remain open until the vehicle is registered in
California. The customer should be instructed to have the service procedure performed at a Chevrolet/GMC dealer located in California.
Involved are certain 1992 C, K Trucks, and M, L, G Vans equipped with 4.3L engines and California emissions equipment (RPO NB2) and built within
the VIN breakpoints as shown.
NOTICE:
Dealers should confirm vehicle eligibility through VISS (Vehicle Information Service System) or ServiceNet (GMC only) prior to beginning
campaign repairs. [Not all vehicles within the above breakpoints may be involved]
Customer Notification
Customers will be notified of this campaign on their vehicles by General Motors (see Copy of divisional customer letter(s) included with this bulletin).
Owners of vehicles registered outside the state of California will receive a second letter advising them that this campaign is not required on their vehicle
unless they are planning to register in California in the future. A reply card will be enclosed that may be returned to close the campaign on such vehicles
(see copy).
