Water Pump: Service and Repair
Water Pump Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the air inlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Powertrain Management.
2. Drain the coolant from the system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System.
3. Remove the inlet radiator hose from the water pump. Refer to Radiator Hose Replacement.
4. Remove the upper fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement.
5. Remove the cooling fan and clutch assembly. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement.
6. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (Accessory) or Drive Belt Replacement (A/C) in Engine.
7. Remove the radiator outlet hose from the coolant pump. Refer to Radiator Hose Replacement.
8. Remove the surge tank hose. Refer to Surge Tank Hose Replacement (Heater Core to Water Pump) or Surge Tank Hose Replacement (Surge Tank
to Radiator).
9. Remove the heater hose.
Refer to Heater Hoses Replacement in Heating and Air Conditioning.
10. Remove the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Removal in Engine.
Installation Procedure
Notice: DO NOT use cooling system seal tabs (or similar compounds) unless otherwise instructed. The use of cooling system seed tabs (or similar
compounds) may restrict coolant flow through the passages of the cooling system or the engine components. Restricted coolant flow may cause engine
overheating and/or damage to the cooling system or the engine components/assembly.
1. Install the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Installation in Engine.
2. Install the surge tank hose. Refer to Surge Tank Hose Replacement (Heater Core to Water Pump) or Surge Tank Hose Replacement (Surge Tank
to Radiator).
3. Install the heater hose. Refer to Heater Hoses Replacement in Heating and Air Conditioning.
4. Install the outlet radiator hose to the coolant pump. Refer to Radiator Hose Replacement.
5. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (Accessory) or Drive Belt Replacement (A/C) in Powertrain Management.
6. Install the cooling fan and clutch assembly. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement.
7. Install the upper fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement.
8. Install the inlet radiator hose to the water pump. Refer to Radiator Hose Replacement - Inlet.
9. Install the air inlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Powertrain Management.
10. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System.
11. Test the cooling system for leaks. Refer to Cooling System Leak Testing.
