Flywheel: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT: Do not machine the flywheel, it is a replacement part only.

1. Disconnect both the battery negative cables from the batteries. Refer to Battery Cable in Powertrain Management.
2. Remove the transfer case from the vehicle (if equipped).

For the BW 4401, BW 4470, and the NVG 241-NP2 transfer cases, refer to Transfer Case Replacement in Transmission and Drivetrain.

For the NVG 243-NP1 transfer case, refer to Transfer Case Replacement in Transmission and Drivetrain.

^

For the NVG 246-NP8 transfer case, refer to Transfer Case Replacement in Transmission and Drivetrain.

3. Remove the transmission from the vehicle.

For the 4L80-E automatic transmission, refer to Transmission Replacement in Transmission and Drivetrain.

For the NV 4500 manual transmission, refer to Transmission Replacement in Transmission and Drivetrain.

^

Remove the clutch assembly from the crankshaft if equipped. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement in Transmission and Drivetrain.

4. Remove the flywheel from the crankshaft.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

1. Install the flywheel to the crankshaft

NOTICE:  Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the flywheel mounting bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 90 Nm (65 ft. lbs.).

3. Install the clutch assembly if equipped. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement in Transmission and Drivetrain.
4. Install the transmission from the vehicle.

For the 4L80-E automatic transmission, refer to Transmission Replacement in Transmission and Drivetrain.

For the NV 4500 manual transmission, refer to Transmission Replacement in Transmission and Drivetrain.

5. Install the transfer case (if equipped).

6. Connect both the battery negative cable to the batteries. Refer to Battery Cable in Powertrain Management.
