Park Brake Actuator Replacement (15 Series)

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in Cautions and Notices.

1. Release the park brake.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer toLifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
4. Relieve the tension from the park brake cable by pulling down on the cable in front of the equalizer and removing the cable from the equalizer bar.
5. Remove the park brake cable from the mounting bracket by depressing the locking tabs.
6. Remove the rear park brake cable from the park brake actuator lever.
7. Remove the rotor. Refer toBrake Rotor Replacement - Rear (W/NYS)Brake Rotor Replacement - Rear (W/O NYS) in Disc Brakes.
8. Remove the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement (8.6 Inch Axle W/O JL4, 9.5 Inch Axle) Rear Axle Shaft Replacement (8.6 Inch

Axle W/JL4) Rear Axle Shaft Replacement (9.75 Inch Axle) in Rear Drive Axle.

9. Remove the park brake shoe. Refer to Park Brake Shoe Replacement (Except RPO NYS, 25 Series)Park Brake Shoe Replacement (RPO

NYS)Park Brake Shoe Replacement (25 Series) .

10. Remove the backing plate bolts.
11. Remove the park brake actuator lever housing from the backing plate.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the park brake actuator lever housing to the backing plate.
2. Perform the following procedure before installing the backing plate bolts.

2.1.

Remove all traces of the original adhesive patch.

2.2.

Clean the threads of the bolt with brake parts cleaner or the equivalent and allow to dry.

2.3.

Apply Threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) to the threads of the bolt.

Note: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

3. Install the backing plate bolts.

Tighten the backing plate bolts to 135 N.m (100 lb ft).

4. Install the park brake shoe. Refer to Park Brake Shoe Replacement (Except RPO NYS, 25 Series) Park Brake Shoe Replacement (RPO NYS) Park

5. Install the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement (8.6 Inch Axle W/O JL4, 9.5 Inch Axle) Rear Axle Shaft Replacement (8.6 Inch Axle

W/JL4) Rear Axle Shaft Replacement (9.75 Inch Axle) in Rear Drive Axle.

6. Adjust the park brake shoe. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
7. Install the rotor. Refer toBrake Rotor Replacement - Rear (W/NYS) Brake Rotor Replacement - Rear (W/O NYS) in Disc Brakes.
8. Install the rear park brake cable to the park brake actuator lever.
9. Install the park brake cable to the mounting bracket until the locking tabs snap into place.

10. Install the park brake cable to the equalizer bar by pulling down on the cable in front of the equalizer and installing the cable to the equalizer bar.
11. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
12. Remove the safety stands.
