In the following step, do not drill into the hinge strap or unnecessary, additional repairs may result.

Drill a 1/8 inch pilot hole using an angle head drill. The drill should penetrate the old rivet (4) at least as deep as the top of the old detent link (3).

Drill a 17/64 inch hole to the same depth as in Step 3. The 17/64 inch drill bit is smaller than the rivet diameter so that the hole in the hinge strap
(1) is not damaged during drilling.
5.
Using a chisel, place the tool between the head of the old rivet and the bottom of the detent link. This will prevent damage to the hinge strap. Pry
the old rivet out using a suitable pry bar (4).
