Service Procedure

1.

Remove brake pedal assembly pivot bolt. Reference 1990 C/K Service Manual X-9031, Section 5, Page 5A-11, Figure 6, # 4 Bolt.

2.

Remove existing thread locking compound from bolt threads.

3.

Coat bolt threads with Medium Strength Thread Locking Compound, GM Part Number 12345382.

4.

Reinstall brake pedal pivot bolt and torque to 47 N-m (35 ft.lbs.).

5.

Adjust stop lamp switch using procedure identified in GMC Service Bulletin 89-T-32 "Brake Lamp Switch Adjustment."

6.

Install "Campaign Identification Label."

Parts are to be obtained from General Motors Service Parts Operation (GMSPO). To ensure that these parts will be obtained as soon as possible, 

they should be ordered from GMSPO on a C.I.O. order with no special instruction code but order under an advise code (2).

Campaign Identification Label

Each vehicle corrected in accordance with the instructions outlined in this product campaign bulletin will require a "Campaign Identification Label".
Each label provides a space to include the campaign number and five (5) digit dealer code of the dealer performing the campaign service. This
information may be inserted with a typewriter or ball point pen.

Each "Campaign Identification Label" is to be located on the radiator core support in an area which will be visible when the vehicle is brought in for
periodic sevicing by the owner.

Apply "Campaign Identification Label" only on a clean, dry surface.

Dear GMC Truck Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

General Motors has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1990 C/K trucks. These vehicles may have a loose pivot
bolt holding the brake pedal to its support bracket. In a few cases, the pivot bolt was only hand started into the bracket weld nut without engaging the
locking material on the bolt. In certain other cases, the bolt was fully engaged into the weld nut, but below the specified torque. It is possible for the bolt
to disengage from the nut resulting in loss of braking action. If this condition occurs while the vehicle is in motion, a vehicle crash could occur without
prior warning.
