CONDITION:
Some customers may comment on a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illuminating in cold weather. A Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0404 or
P1404 is stored in the Vehicle Control Module.
Some customers may also comment of an Oil Level Light illuminating and remaining illuminated during or soon after either an oil change or adding
oil.
CAUSE:
EGR DTC Concern: Rapid cycling of the EGR Valve at ambient temperatures between 1° and 4°C (34 and 39°F).
Oil Level Light Concern: The Oil Level Light may be illuminated, even though the oil level is correct as measured on the dipstick. This condition may
occur if the ignition key is turned on during, or very soon after, an engine oil change or engine oil has been added.
CORRECTION:
For the EGR DTC Concern: Perform the existing diagnostic procedures to verify that the DTC's P0404 and/or P1404 are not the result of an EGR
failure, or of a related wiring/other concern. Engines determined to have EGR faults should be repaired, and then have the PCM Reprogrammed only
if the new calibration was not previously installed. If the DTC's occur and no EGR fault is found, reprogramming the PCM with the new calibration
will be required.
For Oil Level Light On: Reprogramming the PCM with the new calibration will be required.

that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the
equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin
applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from
the information.
