Camshaft: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Evacuate the air conditioning system, if equipped.
CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
2. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
3. Drain the engine oil.
4. Remove the valve rocker arms and pushrods.
5. Remove the lower intake manifold.
6. Remove the valve lifters. Refer to Valve Lifter Removal under Engine Unit Repair.
7. Remove the engine cooling fan.
8. Remove the fan shroud.
9. Remove the radiator grille.
10. Remove the hood latch bracket.
11. Remove the radiator.
12. Remove the A/C condenser, if equipped.
13. Remove the water pump.
14. Remove the crankshaft balancer.
15. Raise the vehicle.
16. Remove the following fasteners from the oil pan:

Two nuts at the front of the engine.

Eleven screws and three studs.
IMPORTANT: Do not remove the two nuts at the rear of the engine.
17. Lower the vehicle.

19. Remove the crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring.
