1. Apply a 2 mm (1/16 inch) bead of RTV sealant GM P/N 12345739 to the oil pan rear seal at the inside corners where the seal meets the rear 

crankshaft bearing cap on the engine block.

2. Install the oil pan rear seal to the rear crankshaft bearing cap before the sealer starts to dry.

3. Install the oil pan to the engine block.

NOTICE:  Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

4. Install the oil pan bolts to the engine block.

4.1.

Tighten the bolts in the following order:

Tighten the two rear bolts to 17 Nm (23 ft. lbs.).

4.3.

Tighten all the other bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).

5. Install the flywheel to the crankshaft. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement.
6. Install the clutch assembly (if equipped). Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement in Transmission and Drivetrain.
7. Install the transmission (2 wheel drive models only) to the vehicle.

8. Install the front differential carrier in the vehicle (4 wheel drive models only). Refer to Differential Carrier Assembly Replacement in Front Axle.
9. Install the front propeller shaft (4 wheel drive models only).

For vehicles equipped with the active transfer case, refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement (Front Axle - NP8) in Transmission and Drivetrain.

10. Lower the vehicle.
11. Install the oil level indictor and tube to the engine block. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement.
12. Fill the crankcase with engine oil.
13. Connect both the battery negative cables to the batteries. Refer to Battery Cable in Powertrain Management.
