NOTICE:

For two-tone vehicles, it is only necessary to repaint the surfaces painted Galaxy Blue (paint code 28), Aspen Blue (paint code 24), or Steel
Gray (paint code 90). Other colors should not be affected by this condition. The front bumper filler panel and all surfaces above the belt line
(see figure 1) must be refinished according to the procedure listed below. If surfaces below the belt line and the interior of the pickup box
(on pickup models) appear to be in good condition, the dealer should scuff sand, seal and color coat those painted surfaces rather than
refinish. However, if any peeling or topcoat delamination is evident, or if scuff sanding produces any topcoat delamination, it will be
necessary to refinish these surfaces as well, according to the procedures below. It should not be necessary to paint inside of door jambs,
underneath exterior moldings or decals (sunshine stripes), as these areas are not normally subjected to continued exposure to (ultra-violet)
sunlight.

The following are the instructions for refinishing those exterior surfaces painted either Galaxy Blue (paint code 28), Aspen Blue (paint code 24), or Steel
Gray (paint code 90) on the 1988 and 1989 S/T pickups and S/T Jimmys.

1.

Sand the original finish coat or paint down to the electro-coat (Elpo) primer, making sure that the factory pretreatment and Elpo primer are
still intact for good corrosion protection.

2.

Finish sand exposed Elpo primer with 240 grit sandpaper to assure removal of any chalky residue of degraded Elpo primer that may remain as
a result of overbaking of the primer.

Important

Do not sand through the Elpo to bare metal.

3.

Use an air gun to remove all dirt from the cracks and surface of the truck.

4.

Clean sanded surface with a grease and wax remover.

5.

Spray the entire prepared area with a coat of DP40/DP401 anti-corrosion primer (PPG/Ditzler) or equivalent. Follow manufacturers
instructions and recommended dry times.

6.

Apply 2 to 3 medium wet coats of primer-surfacer to the primed surface truck, making sure to follow manufacturers instructions for
application.

7.

After allowing adequate drying time, wet sand with 400 grit (or finer) sandpaper or dry sand with 320 grit (or finer) sandpaper.

8.

Repeat Steps 3 and 4.

9.

Apply one (1) medium wet coat of primer sealer, following manufacturers instructions.

10.

Apply three (3) to four (4) medium wet coats (or until primer color is well hidden) of Acrylic/Urethane Enamel color Follow manufacturer
